Lakes Transformation

We love it when we get the opportunity to work on a large-scale, genuinely transformative project. Which is why we’re delighted to announce that a multi-million-pound masterplan scheme for the Low Wood Bay Hotel in Ambleside has been submitted to the Lake District National Park as part of a Planning Performance Agreement process. We’ve been working closely with English Lakes Hotels and landscape designers Stephenson Halliday to put together proposals for the expansion and upgrading of this beautiful site on the shores of Windermere.

The scheme includes the construction of a relocated main access to the complex, a new 46-bedroom building, a contemporary reception lodge building, new spa facilities with infinity pool, a multi-use sports facility, and an eye-catching atrium space linking a number of the existing hotel buildings. We’ll post updates as the project progresses.

Simon Berry, Managing Director of English Lakes Hotels, Resorts and Venues, commented: “We are very proud to be part of the community in the South Lakes and to have played an important role in the development of sustainable tourism in the Lake District.

Low Wood Bay is a very popular destination for visitors to the Lake District. By expanding the current facilities, these exciting proposals would fill an important gap in the tourism offering in the Lakes, creating a world class, luxury resort on the shores of Windermere. We have been working with the Lake District National Park Authority under a Planning Performance Agreement and we look forward to talking to people in the local community and to other businesses as the plans progress.

The business case for this development is driven by the need to ensure long term economic and environmental sustainability for Low Wood Bay. This will best be secured by investing significantly in both the scale and quality of the product offering.”
